I’ve only had Samsung’s new handset for a day or so, but it’s awesome. The Galaxy S8 Plus is a big phone with a 6.2 inch display, but it’s only slightly taller than the iPhone 7 Plus. The phone has very thin bezels, the smallest we’ve seen on a premium device. There isn’t any physical home button this time around, but instead there are on screen buttons at the bottom of the screen.
The phone might take some time getting use to for people who aren’t familiar with large phones. The phone is pretty tall, but it’s not as wide as most phones. This makes the phone easier to hold in the hand. The UI is much cleaner than previous Galaxy phones and very enjoyable. I haven’t tested much features out yet, but what I have has been great!
Is this a perfect phone? No of course not, but it is close to it. Not everyone is going to like this phone, but I think a lot of people are going to. I’m sure there will be few people who jump from an iPhone to this new device. We have seen plenty of tablet’s come out over the years that claimed they were 2 in 1 computers. Two in one computers are typically tablets that are also computers. None of these have been as great as dedicated computers, but some have come close. Microsoft’s Surface Pro’s have done a fairly good job, but they cost an arm and a leg if you want the higher end versions.
Not everyone really needs a computer and can get by with just their phone. Things can get a little difficult to do like properly scaling powerpoints, or printing things out from your phone. Thankfully Samsung has an easy solution for this and it’s called Dex. Samsung revealed their new smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus a few weeks ago. With these new phones you can convert your phone into a desktop computer by docking it into the Dex. The docking device allows you to charge your phone, and connect it to a monitor via HDMI. This also lets you plug up to 2 devices into it through USB 2.0. Once connected you can use the phone as a computer, but also use it as your phone. You still get your notifications, and can call people. The thing is, you can only use apps that Samsung has for you and not all of them are properly optimized for a desktop version just yet.
So can you survive this world without a computer? Well, sort of. Sure you can get by and only use your phone or maybe a tablet, but you won’t be able to do things that require a lot of power or be able to do some serious multi tasking. I’m sure eventually we’ll live a world where everything we need lives in one place.
The Nintendo Switch has been out for about a week now, and it is selling very well so far. However, there have been some problems coming in from people all over the place. On top of that the console has been getting very mixed reviews from critics. Some praising the console, while others seriously criticizing it for the lack of features built in (like apps, or other basic things) and unable to perform as well as a dedicated mobile device or dedicated home console. Some people think that the $299.99 price tag is too steep for what it offers at the moment, with myself being one of those people.
Check out IGN or CNET’s review to see good honest opinions about the Switch. A lot of what they talk about is true, and they aren’t bashing the console. The console is experiencing issues with some users. For instance, for some the game start to flicker on the screen whether its docked to the TV or if you’re simply playing on the actual tablet itself. For some the controllers are having trouble connecting to the system. It seems like something is interfering the signal to the Switch. The controllers also feel like they are going to fall off when they are connected to the system itself, when playing in portable mode. The system will randomly stop working and and making a loud noise until you power down the console. When you go to insert the game you want to play sometimes the game won’t pop up and you can’t play the game.
All of these problems are pretty bad, but this is the first batch of consoles and this isn’t happening to everyone. This is actually happening to a small percent of people. None of this stuff has happened to me and I’m having a blast with my Switch. However, there is one issue that is actually very important for people to be aware of. When you have the joycon controllers separated and you put on the strap that comes in the box, you need to be very careful when putting it on and off. I put the strap on the wrong way my first time and when I went to slide it off I had to put some extreme force. While doing so, I very close to slicing my finger open. This seems to be a serious design flaw especially knowing that lots of children will be using this device.
With all of this being said, it is a solid device. It has problems just like every new piece of technology. If any of these things have scared you off from purchasing one, I’d advise you to maybe wait a few months until Nintendo irons out these things. I think the Switch has a bright future ahead of itself and that Nintendo really has made the console many of us have wanted.
The Tech company LG is well known for it’s Tv’s, and smartphones, as well as their refrigerators and washing machines. Lately however, their smartphones have been a bit flip floppy to say the least. The LG G5 was suppose to be some what groundbreaking by featuring a module design. You were suppose to be able to switch out pieces of the phone to have a better camera, or to have a better speaker. This was a very cool idea, but it really was just an idea. They compromised design for features that not many people wanted. In the end the phone didn’t sell well and caused LG to push their secondary flagship phone called the LG V series a little harder this year. Now in March, LG is releasing their next LG G series with the G6. This phone looks extremely promising.
The phone features a more clean and sleek design from last years phone. The phone is glass on front and back, with metal siding. The phone doesn’t seem to have much curving like some of the past phones had. The phone itself is a bit thicker by a few mm’s when comparing it to the likes of the iPhone 7. The phone has a dual camera on the rear of the phone, along with the home button and fingerprint scanner. Inside you have a 3,300 mAh battery which is one of the biggest batteries to be featured in LG’s smartphones. This is the first G series phone to have no removable battery, but in doing so it has aloud LG to make the phone water and dust resistant. On the front side of things, LG has made the bezels of the phone even smaller than previous models. The bezels are ultra slim, much like what we are expecting to see on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8. The phone comes with a 5.7 inch screen just like the Galaxy Note devices and a Quad HD resolution. The phone looks great, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. If you want to know all of the exact specs of the phone, be sure to check out Android Authority’s video featuring the Lg G6.
Nintendo is planning on releasing their new home console next month on the 3rd of march and lots of people are interested. What makes this console different from every console that Nintendo has released before is that it’s both a home console, and a mobile console in one. The device is essentially a tablet that you can slide 2 halves of a controller on to. You can then prop the tablet up to stand on its own and take the controllers off and use the tablet as a screen. The two halves of the controller can then be used as 2 separate controllers. You can also slide the device into a dock that comes with the console which allows you to play your games on your TV and charge the device. You get the power of a home console like an Xbox or a Playstation where ever and when ever you want with no limitations.
Nintendo is putting a lot on the line with this device because the last home console (Nintendo Wii U) sold extremely poorly with only around 13 million units being sold. Nintendo’s previous home console (Nintendo Wii) sold over 100 million units in 7 or so years, so only 13 million units being sold in 4 years is terrible. Nintendo does have a lot of money in the bank, but they can’t afford to keep making hardware that flops. Nintendo’s stock has been going down every time they reveal something new so they really need to hit a home tun with this one.
